backyard birds

posted Tuesday, 6 May 2008

I’m really not sure why some evenings our yard is extremely full of birds and other evenings I only see my Chickadees. One evening last week as I sat on the porch, I was excited to see my normal folks (3 Downy Woodpeckers, 1 Hairy Woodpecker, Umpteen Chickadees, 3 White-breasted Nuthatches, a couple of Blue Jays and several Dark-eyed Juncos),and a pair of Brown headed Cowbirds, 2 pair of Cardinals, 3 Goldfinches, a couple of House Finches, a sweet little Sparrow and 5, yes 5 bluebirds. The Bluebirds excited me the most because one little female seemed extremely interested in my birdhouse.

Great sightings! I went birding today at the refuge. I plan on posting some photos on Thursday. I am sorry to say no Red Knots or Turnstones yet.

Cool shots! We had bird seed left over in our garage from the winter and started putting it out a couple weeks ago. Me and my daughter have had a GREAT time watching the spring birds during our noon picknick in the back yard. Many are just like yours. I'm out of town on business this week and your pictures made me think of home. Thanks for sharing!

I was thinking of you again this weekend! We were cutting the grass up at the lake house this past weekend and the birds were going crazy! They move so fast...I don't know if I can get a good pic?!?! Your pics are always so good! I'm going to "TRY" this weekend just for "YOU"!!! I think I need to get a bird feeder!!! Mr. "S" dad has a cool looking wood-pecker that lives in his backyard! He is the one I want a pic of!!! He has the hole drilled in the bottom of the branch so the rain doesn't come in!!!!! =)

Love the pics.

I was out enjoying the birds a few days ago and was excited to see a Tree Swallow checking out my birdhouse. It doesn't look like they moved in.

There have been a steep increase in finches around here over the last few years, wonder why.

I just had a good laugh at your comment questioning the red stripe sock. On the Nora Jones Video, the guy with the white hairless legs are wearing red striped athletic socks. I made the quip about the sock after seeing that. It generated a question or two, even from Hubby. Just a product of my strange little mind!

Love the photo of the blue bird the best - my favorite bird! I also like the Cardinal picture because of the contrast between nature and technology!! Very cool photos.
