My husband has been enjoying some time off work and with the snow and holidays we’ve stayed close to home. Each time we think we’ll venture out to geocache we get worn out trudging through knee deep snow and give up and go home. We have spent too much time cooped up in the house and finally landed on somewhere to go and something to do.
It only took us two days of the whole, “What do you want to do?”, “I dunno, where do you wanna go?” conversations to finally land on an idea that made us quiver with excitement. Well, ok, so maybe we didn’t quiver. . . I think it was more like a flurry of clothes being tossed in bags and cameras grabbed kinda thing.
“Let’s go shoot some Eagles!”
And we were off. But, again due to the inability to make up our minds about anything, we decided this about 10:30 yesterday morning. You can find the Bald Eagles pretty much anywhere near a lock and dam on the Mississippi River this time of year. We decided to stay overnight in Dubuque and start the search today. We only spotted 4 of them yesterday and none were to where we could get off the road and near enough to photograph but we did take a little detour to Goose Island County Park and play with the deer for a while.
You may remember this shot from January. While I couldn’t get any deer to stick their tongues out at me today I did have a lot of fun playing hide and seek with one, giggled at the snow on a young ones’ nose and laughed my ass off at a chubby cheeked fellow though.
Hopefully, I’ll get some Eagles today, but I’ll be working on my Fun Monday post so they will have to wait until Tuesday. What a way to start the new year!
PS - I sure hope Dennis hasn’t noticed my new little deer buddy in the back of our car; I’m hoping that he gets along well with my sweet little prairie dog.
Too funny! Well, not ha-ha funny, but my husband loves to geo-cache!! I
went with him once and it was fun. He ended up having to crawl in this
little cave to get out the box of goodies. Poot was so afraid there was a
bear inside but the only thing that came out were millions of gnats. I
love the pictures, too. Such close ups of the mouth and movements, like
you were telling him what to do and when. I got a picture of a deer
pee-ing once...didn't know they did it that way. :) Very cool shots!!!
You mention bald eagles - which are more plentiful in our NW. I believe we
have one - two sightings over the years. We do have many golden eagles and
have even located a nest. Great pics of the deer. You have a touch. ;)
These shots are great. I love the chubby cheeked one!! It looks as though
it's talking to you!
The last time I saw cheeks like those was on a snake-bit dog!
Those are some great pics! Looks like a lot of fun....
I love your Bambi montage. And, it's so nice to see them being shot that
way. Round here these parts they'd be venison.
LOL i bout wet myself over the joke :)
Wow, those are amazing photos!
I just love your nature pics...the deer look so very peaceful in all of
these! Love the chubby cheek guy!!
Damn micros in the woods! I went out today and found a bunch of micros.
Gimme an ammo can anyday!
