Chickadees and Goldfinches

posted Thursday, 8 May 2008
I’m sorry that I forget sometimes that not everyone has the same birds around their own neck of the woods. The Chickadees are in my yard every single day and will zip and flit around you unafraid. It is not unusual to have one land on a feeder while I’m trying to refill it. But, it has come to my attention that I really don’t photograph them often. I guess I take them for granted since I see them everyday.

I took this one a few days ago and I kinda like it.

These were taken last fall and are two of my favorite Chickadee photos.  If you would like to hear the Chickadee, click here.

The yellow bird posted a couple of days ago is an American Goldfinch. And he was still around the next day.

Bird on a Wire

They’re very bright right now, but in the fall they look more faded, like the one below.

hello

I hope to eventually get a decent shot of these colorful birds.  You can hear his song here.

Thanks for the lesson! I always forget the chickadees are chickadees. Just can't remember a face, I guess.

These are great.

The Chickadee looks very similar to what we call a Coal Tit here in the UK

beautiful pictures. They make me want to go out in the woods and find birds to photograph. Here in northern minnesota we have mostly the same birds, I think it would be fun, I'm going to do it.

You have much better birds than we do. I get giddy over just seeing a dove!

Excellent detail in your photos. I can appreciate how you can grow accustom to something which is present everyday.

I was just sitting here feeling a little jealous, thinking, we don't get such pretty little birds around here! But then I realised just like you that I was taking what we have for granted. I have a couple of resident magpies out the front, not as pretty but full of character! We also get a lot of native birds like galahs, cocatoos, rosellas, all very beautiful too!

Thank you for reminding me to stop and smell the roses, or in this case, enjoy the birds! Have a great day!

These photos are spectacular. I love snapping pictures of birds. My mother's cousin introduced me to the joy of bird photography.

Although I haven't had the chance to take any bird photos yet this year.

Beautiful job, Lisa. Have you ever used extension tubes for macros? I was just reading about them and since the macro on my telephoto lens is 180-300 I thought I might try the tubes instead of buying a better macro lens. I also want to know how close your close-ups of the birds are and what lens, if you don't mind sharing. I can never seem to get close enough. maybe that'll change when I get the feeders up.

Beautiful photos. I saw an amazing red bird yesterday, no idea what is was and it had gone by the time I got the camera. I hope it comes back.

the chicadees don't come around my house much, but I see them many other places around here. However, the goldfinch about ate me out of house and home this past month. Remember my yard tour? That was goldfinch you could hear

I meant to say that we have the cowbirds - but I've never seen a female that looked like that. Very interesting.

What beautiful pictures - yep, a chickadee is a coal tit.

Thanks for clearing that up I have had a gang of Long tailed tis in my garden over the last few days. Next to the Wren, they are my favourite birds
