Can you believe that we grabbed coats, gloves, boots and ran out into the cold to attempt getting photos of the lunar eclipse while mother nature was sticking us in the freezer. We broke the old record low of -20, set in 1963 on February 21st and created a new one, -25. Spring is how far away?
Unfortunately, that’s as good as I was able to get. Those were all handheld, I tried using the tripod and lengthening the exposure but everyone of those came out bad due to the mirror causing camera shake and by the time I realized they were doing it I was in fear for losing my nose to frostbite and decided whatever I got would just have to be it.
Did you go out and watch it? What was the weather like for your excursion outdoors? Are you sure Spring is coming?

If you are looking for photography tips I have stumbled upon a site that gives tons of information and tutorials. From point and shoot cameras to digital SLRs to Photoshop Tutorials. I venture to guess it all can be found there. Just in the last three days there have been tips for shooting photos at night, Cloning people and using Photoshop to whiten teeth. Let's learn together, as I think they know the proper terms for that f-yield-thingy, light/dark/balance dealy and acupuncturer. . .DPS: Digital Photography School.
Weird searches:
Yikes! Lisa....THAT is really cold....and I wouldn't have ventured out.
But I'm so glad you did as your pics are just stunning!!! Really
beautiful!!
double wow.
Awesome shots!
And thanks for the heads up on the Photo Tips!
Wonderful photos Lisa. I missed the eclispe but hubby saw it while night
skiing and ssaid it was amazing. Thanks for the photo tips site too, it
looked good.
I watched it - on the east coast - in Northern Virginia. I too, stood out
in the cold and wondered what the heck I was doing! (Not as cold as where
you are though!). Great pictures and thanks for sharing.
Be proud of your pix. Mine turned out terrible. Not worthy of posting.
Maybe I will anyhow just to show everyone how bad they were. :)
I've been all pouty and "nobody told me" since the lunar eclipse, because
somehow I completely missed any mention of it until AFTER it happened.
Thank goodness for people like you who braved the elements and got great
pictures to share with the rest of us.
Yes, I saw the eclipse though with a lot less teeth chattering than you!
How did you get those shots handheld?! Please tell me - I can't figure out
camera settings for night shots.
We got some pictures too - although we cheated. We had a very good view of
the eclipse from a spare bedroom and we just opened the window and took
some pics using the tripod. The Man worked out the longer exposure stuff
and they came out looking great - not as close-up as yours - but still
great for a little digital.
Those are great! I took some eclipse photos myself, which are over at my
place...
It was cloudy here, still is, so I couldn't see the eclipse. But if it had
been-21 and clear, I still wouldn't have seen it! Too cold!
Lisa, I saw your comment on my daughter Carrie's blog, Carrie and the
Koehmstedts. She doesn't still live in CA, but I do. I promise, if you're
brave, and come to SoCal, you won't get killed. I've lived here all my
life. It's fun, diverse, and different from WS, not that there's anything
wrong with WS, we love WS. We have mountains, desert, and the ocean, all
very close to each other. Come visit.
Great shots! I'll have to check out the photography site you gave. I have
so many sites I've found in a folder on my desk I fear I may never get to
them all. But I'm sure going to try :o)
Your eclipse pictures aren't showing up for me. It was cloudy here, a bit
warmer, but no moon in sight.
It's lovely to see your eclipse photos and I'm sure I'm going to learn a
lot from the photographic link~ whether I will be able to put it into
practise is another thing!!
Very very nice..I tried but I was so fricking cold I was shaking..and NO it
wasn't near as cold as there but give me a break..it was 12 and I didn't
have gloves on. I would have needed a tripod or something. I really though
need to become better friends with my camera before Aruba..I want to take
some shots that are freaking awesome..I can see them in my brain
already...I can't wait
They are handheld? Wow! I am impressed!
Nice shots. It was too cloudy here for me to to get any photos. :-(
I think those shots of the eclipse are terrific. I really like the last
one. I tried to get pictures of the last one, but they came out like a big
bunch of nothing, so I didn't even try this time.
I'm glad you got some photos of the eclipse. I just moved into a new
apartment and neglected to bring my camera with me. I didn't know there was
going to be an eclipse. A worker at walmart stopped me as I was loading my
groceries and asked if I had looked up at the sky lately. I thought she was
a weirdo at first.
those are tanfabulous shots. We went to photoshop class (yes I'm trying to
figure it out, but I'm struggling)
We popped out several times in chilly night (35 degrees) to view it as a
class. One of the students had his HUGE lens and took pictures. I didn't
even attempt it.
Those are awesome photos. Thanks for the pointers on where to find
pointers for taking photos. It must be a little painful for some to the
photography people to come to my posts and see some of the substandard
photos. I usually just throw them up in a hurry because I have a ton of
other things I need to be doing. One day I hope to have more time to
devote to taking and playing with photos.
beautiful photos!!! I tried to take some of the eclipse but unfortunately
my camera isn't good enough!!!
Aims, I'm so glad your friend is doing good and that she enjoyed the bag!
:)
Stunning photos! Hubby and I were admiring the eclipse from here too! I was
just telling Hubby that it's a shame that A) I don't have a better camera
and B) I'm not a great photographer! LOL! It would have been amazing to
capture something so wonderful.
Spectacular photos especially when you consider they are handheld! I saw
the eclipse too when walking my dog. Too cold to grab my camera for a shot
and too lazy to set up the spotting scope. The color was similarly orange
like your photos. I've seen some that were silvery rather than orange. I
wonder what accounts for the color difference?
