Duck Portraits

posted Thursday, 13 March 2008
I am going to tell you who that eye (from yesterday) belongs to but first things first. Thank you guys for being such great supporters! I still haven’t decided what to do about the doctor/oncologist but having written it down and having you guys share my frustration has me feeling much better! Thank you!

Oh, and as for the weight thing. Dennis and I joined a gym. We joined Snap Fitness, it is cheaper than our Y and the big bonus (to us) is that we can go anytime of the day or night. We each have a card that unlocks the door so if we feel like working out at 3 am, we can. Cool! And, when Dennis is traveling he can go to any Snap Fitness, anywhere. Double Cool! We did more than join, we actually worked out too. Amazing.

So, on to the ducks. Yep that was a female Mallard’s eye, way to be specific Jenni! Let me introduce you to some friends:

sassy

Here’s Sassy. She is the reigning Miss Wisconsin and although body piercings are not allowed she keeps a feather tucked in her nostril.

minnie mae

Minnie Mae was hoping to compete this year but was unable to. She hasn’t been able to regain her figure after raising her clutch of eight. And with all the carb cravings she’s been having I’m not so sure she’ll make it next year either.

DPP_0411

Pete, aka Peg Leg Pete, likes the ladies. I think he might be friends with Pamela’s Hawk.

DPP_0412

Prince is proud to say that Sassy is his favorite quack. See how tall he stands. He walks around on tippy toes so he can be the tallest duck of all.

prince

Sassy always makes sure he keeps a feather in his nostril. This is her way of staking claim on him, making sure all the other ladies know to back off, or else. . .

DPP_0404

I didn’t catch this fellow’s name but he walks so proud that I’m sure he was sired by Prince. See, he’s already mastering the special, patented, tippy toe walk. Let’s take a closer look at him.

DPP_0403

I call this “Portrait of a duck”, I think he will be proud to hand out this headshot when he goes for auditions. Oh, I didn’t tell you he was an actor? Couldn’t you tell by his smile? Mama always said he had the perfect beak and I think it shows in this profile.

DPP_0402

Flippy is extremely shy and I had to promise him a whole loaf of bread (he’s wooing Minnie Mae) to get him to pose. He did very well, just twisted that little foot in nervousness. Soon, he was gone.

DPP_0407

He went to hide behind a huge pile of snow. I love how he tossed up some snow as he was landing.

DPP_0401

Twisted (Flippy’s dad) loves to show off for the camera. I didn’t have to bribe him at all, in fact it was hard to keep him out of shots. He is pretty talented though.

Minnie Mae

Minnie Mae, I see you behind that pile of snow! Put that bread down girl!

As always, amazing photos! And I loved the tale you told with them too.

About your other post, I think you are completely justified in feeling furstrated, and I hope you find a way to at least make your own doctors understand your furstrations.

Who knew the lives of ducks could be so dang interesting! It's like a little soap opera. "All My Ducklings" or "As the World Turns We Migrate."

Ducks are so damn cute.

Also, in answer to your question you posted on my blog, the Mommy and Me music class we attend I stumbled upon when I was driving around our metropolitan area. I just happened to see the place and so I called for a seat in the class. But I bet the yellow pages would probably have something like that in there. Ours is just a local chain, I think. It's not actually called Mommy and Me Music Class, but that's basically the idea.

Too bad it's full of freaky parents . . .

Woohoo! I got it right!

Lovely duck photos, Lisa! My favorite is the duck taking flight. And now I see one of your tricks to getting them to stick around and model for you--pay them in breadcrumbs.

Congratulations on joining a gym. I belong to gym where I work and it uses a card key to get in with 24/7 access. That kind of access makes it more convenient to use and more likely you will stick with it, plus having your husband to work out with can make it more fun.

As always you have great photos, plus it was great doctor story. Sometimes it feels good to vent.

Never would have guessed, and I've never seen ducks look so noble and beautiful. Especially that one in flight. I actually dreamt about a duck biting my fingers last night.

What a terrific post, Lisa! I love all the character of these ducks - they all seem so generic to me when I see them at a pond, but you've made their personalities shine! That shot with the snow in the air is gorgeous.

A great photo story array. I love ducks especially when they put a little curl in their feet. How cute.

Great you actually worked out at the gym. Convenience is a big draw on doing exercise, although I am not sure I would be inclined to do it at 3 am. I used to work at that time of day, but I am older now and less motivated to be up so early.

Too funny. The Pioneer Woman did this awhile ago but with horses and it was fantastic like your ducks. Love the story telling LOL
