Every family has stories that make them laugh, silly things that get told and retold at family gatherings and no matter how many times they’re told the laughter still accompanies them. Here are a couple of ours.
When Bryan was working at Dairy Queen, and before he had his drivers license, I was his wheels. One of the rare nights Dennis was home we both jumped into the Durango to go get him. Shortly after we pulled into the parking lot Bryan came to the vehicle, opened the door and shut it. Dennis pulled out and we got about 8 blocks away when my cell phone rang. “Bryan” showed on the screen and I turned to ask him why he was calling.
“Bryan, why are you. . .” I turned to look at Dennis and said, “He’s not there.”
“What do you mean he’s not there?”
I answered the phone. Bryan was still standing on the parking lot, puzzled as to why we left him. When he opened the door behind his dad he discovered laundry soap in the floorboard, so he closed the door and began to walk around the vehicle (to the rear) to get in the other side but we took off.
I think we laughed the hardest about the fact that we got so far away before he even called. I had thought that he was unusually quiet but we hadn’t even noticed that we left him in the parking lot. How horrible are we and how funny is that?
The other story revolves around Mikal and it’s not the time the carwash ate his car, although that is funny. This is what happened last October. After Mikal’s Celica got totaled he bought a Bronco to get around in. It was an old farm vehicle and wasn’t the prettiest but it got him where he needed to go.
One day he was on his way to work and he decided to stop by the bank on his way. He parked the car and suddenly, without warning, the wheel fell off. Well it didn’t exactly fall off, rather it rolled away. Mikal had very quick responses and jumped out of the Bronco, running after his wheel, he saw it was headed towards a car and he was trying to catch it.
While he was in the bank the teller asked him if he knew that was going to happen. “Here’s your sign” It was luck it happened where it did and not while he was flying down the highway and I’m so happy he made it out safe but I still love to hear him tell the story and what I would give to have been a mouse there watching.
How about you? What’s happened to your family that makes everyone laugh?
How long do you think I'll have to wait for this much snow? This is our front yard the day after Tristan was born (Feb 24, 2007). Anyway, you can see the red Durango down the edge of the driveway there and the Celica in front of it.
First off, I worked at DQ for many years in high school...but that story?
Had me laughing out loud!!
Lisa, I almost peed my pants....THAT IS H I L A R I O U S!! You have a way
with words, sister!! Now, I have to go back and read the rest of your
funny stories!! Compared to all you guys, I lead quite a boring life!! I
think it has to do with the kids...my not having any at home!
OH MY Goodness - that was hilarious. I burst out laughing and my daughter
came running in, "What is it?" Thanks for the laugh. (your poor son!)
Your boys sound fun. I can't wait to get to the more interactive phase.
Jeanne, maybe I should have posted a "Please wear a diaper before reading"
warning. :) I sure have a lot less of these stories as my kids get older.
Go out and make your fun. :)
Karmyn, Glad I could lighten your day. :)
we get snow but it's not often we get that much
Because of the huge amounts of snow we get there are many plows and
generally even if the snow falls during the night by the time you take the
kids to school the next morning the roads are clear.
Well mom nice story but it was a Blazer s-10 not a Bronco :P and it was a
lady walking into the bank holding open the door for me not the teller :P
and I didn't make it all the way into the parking stall :P
