When we were out looking at Bald Eagles last week we were fortunate enough to come across a bunch of other birds. Finches, Mourning Doves, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Downy Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Pileated Woodpeckers.
These first two remind me of antique greeting cards or postcards or old magazines.
Mourning Doves
Lonely Finch
Distant Blue Jay
Female Cardinal
Male Cardinal
Feeding birds
Female Downy Woodpecker
Male Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Which one is your favorite?
Those are some AMAZING pictures. The clarity is spectacular. Glad you got
such great shots.
Wonderful shots! I love the male downey wood pecker. They are all beautiful
though, esp against the snow.
All I can say I a big WOW to your photos..goshh those birds are
magnificent!..
These are beautiful photos! I can't pick a favorite. Thank you for sharing!
All of the photos are amazing!!! @_@ Happy WW !
wow! you have a very nice picture and I love the way you put consistency of
the picture, indeed you have a great post! keep it up!!!
It's so hard to pick just one. They are all such beautiful photos. Very
well done. Happy WW :)
You capture birds beautifully. My favorite is the finch.
I don't know much about birds but your photography is great and I love the
colour of the male cardinal...stunning.
Wow. Those pictures are beautiful. The Red Cardinals are really cute, and
I like the red bellied woodppecker, but I think my favourite is the female
downy woodpecker, though the picture of the male one is a stunning capture.
Fabulous. :D
These are so beautiful. You take such fantastic photos have you ever
thought of making them into cards yourself!
I really, really, really miss the cardinals from when we lived in Ohio.
sigh.... your pictures are beautiful!!
Amazing pics, Lisa! The snowy background really brings out the colors in
the birds...beautiful! Love all the woodpeckers. Really, really nice
pictures. You could make your own Christmas cards using some of those pics!
Holy Batman!!! Theses are AMAZING SHOTS! Love em all!!! MyWordless
Wednesday pics are up as well;-) Happy WW!
Fantastic blog and photos -- where have you been hiding! Your bird photos
are fantastic...and the frog....no words.
I like the female cardinal the best, then the male downy woodpecker, then
the second pic of the red-bellied woodpecker. It's hard to choose though.
You take such wonderful bird photos. I think I asked how you do it a while
back and now I've got to go back and read the comments to see if you
answered. I just seem to scare them away.
okay what kind of camera do you have and how close were you to those birds?
I love them all!! I just love the momma cardinal and the Morning
doves...they just look so plump and fluffy.
The cardinals are my favorite. All are wonderful photos.
I will go for the red bellied woodpecker, but it was hard to pick one; all
the pictures were just fantastic.
I love the lonely finch, the pink feathers are so cute. And, I really like
the Downeys. Such beautiful & crisp colors.
They are all gorgeous, but I have to say I think the Downy Woodpeckers are
my favorite.
All your photos are AMAZING, and the Male Cardinal is absolutely gorgeous,
all fluffed up in RED, but my favorite photo is the one with the mourning
doves. Something about them been in pairs and fluffing up to keep warm,
gives me this warm fuzzy feeling.
As usual, love the pictures!!
Beautiful pictures, we don't have nearly that large of an assortment of
birds here in the winter. My favorite is the cardinal, we don't get those
at all.
I love all the cardinal photos they are just beautiful but I think the
lonely Finch is my favorite.
Stunning shot. Happy WW.
Mine is up too.
I like the red-bellied woodpecker because we don't have them here (or the
red cardinals). We do have a red-bellied sapsucker than looks similar.
What lovely photos, so clear and spectacular! I love the cardinal photos
the best. My mother is a cardinal lover and I haven't seen one since I
moved to Colorado from the east coast - absolutely beautiful.
Oh my gosh, Lisa!!! I am totally serious when I say that those pictures
are astounding! They are so clear, and you have an amazing talent!
Especially with the perspective aspect. Wow. Just wow!
Jenni, Patience. I sit and wait and take tons of shots and try to ease
closer while still shooting. Occasionally you get somewhere that the birds
are very used to people. All of these were taken at the entrance to a
State Park and I assume the birds were used to seeing cars all the time. I
sat in the car, 20 feet from them as they moved in and out. In our own
yard, I put out feeders and got the birds used to me sitting outside so
while they may scatter when we open the door they come right back. Biggest
thing, patience.
This is my first time visiting here. I love your photos of birds. They are
stunning. I love birds and have one of those linking birdfeeder systems.
With the very cold weather we have, we also have a heated bird bath (bird
bath sauna, lol). Thanks for sharing these.
I have a canon rebel xti and was using the 70-300mm lens. They were maybe
20 feet from me. :)
I love the loney finch. You guys have the best birds. Why aren't they
south for the winter?
Oh, my word, Lisa...these are STUNNING! What a spectacular series, worthy
of reproduction. Gosh...a favorite? The first male cardinal captured my
attention in bloglines, the rest of the series held me here. They're all
beautiful in their own way, and there's a haunting quality to them. I can
feel the cold...
My God Lisa, to pick a favorite? Not possible. These are the most amazing
photos. Just breath taking. I mean...wow.
They're all wonderful. I totally understand how excited you were about the
pileated. It's one of those birds that I really try to get a decent shot
of.
I like the male cardinal best. We don't have those here. We have a
pileated woodpecker in our yard that we see fairly often. Those are great
bird photos. You are so talented.
You know, all these birds were near the Mississippi River, which has
patches unfrozen. That's the only reason I can think of they're still
here.
Oh my goodness! What beautiful bird photos! I absolutely love all of
them...
Can't choose. anyone.
Nice shot of that finch, Cassins?
Oh Lisa!!! These pics just ROCK!!! They are A M A Z I N G!!!!
Seriously...the little pink colored finch....absolutely breathtaking!! You
gotta get published girl!!
Pam, we don't have Cassin's here, but we have house.
I told you over on Flickr...I am a sucker for a bright red male cardinal!!
LOVE them! Great photos...truley beautiful!!
You already know I love all your photography but I'm a sucker for red so
the male cardinal is my favorite.
I may have asked already, but can never remember to come back or even where
I asked questions. Where do you live? I can't believe the number of birds
roosting around your parts. Those are beautiful pictures and I always love
shots of birdies where you can see both little legs cocked out to hold up
those enormous bodies. Too cute. :-)
Okay, just saw the little frog and read he didn't make it Missouri so that
may have answered my question.
Oh my! At first I was just all, like, wow look at the red one, he sure
stands out so well, but then there was more! Just breathtaking! You are so
clever. Now where is MY eagle?
Beautiful... Just beautiful. I have been wanting to get up to snow country
and do some photos like this. I would be thrilled if they came out half
this good. This is just lovely. :)
Karisma, if you're wanting to see the eagle photos I took there is a link
to them in this post. :)
Oh my. I am so insanely jealous of your birds. Gorgeous photography as
always Lisa.
Some great pictures, but my favorite has to be the little finch.
