Geocaching is treasure hunting with a gps. It can be a lot of fun as well as educational. For more info go to http://www.geocaching.com/ .
We've liked geocaching for a few years but had a little hiatus for building the house and the whole cancer thing. Now we are feeling the itch to get more exercise an it seemed like the perfect time to go caching. You have to walk a mile or more for some of them.
Well, this weekend we got back into seeking treasures. Dennis, Haden, Fibi, Brodi and I found several and we drug Nick and Britney to one too. Haden is an excellent little seeker, he just digs right in and has so much energy he checks three spots to our one. He's usually the one yelling, "I found it."

Haden a gallon sized geocache. Yes, his sweatshirt says "Useless" but it lies. :)

Inside the cache. You sign the logbook and take something, leave something.

Cache's are placed on public places and hidden to where you must be looking to find, you generally won't stumble across one and they are everywhere. If you go to a geocaching map you will find hundreds in every state and many overseas. This cache is hidden in a huge old tree (see it under the bark?), but some are in trees or under leaves or just about any place.

Cache's can be any size at all. For this micro cache all that will fit inside is a logbook (in this case a rolled up piece of paper). Nano cache's also exist but we have yet to search for one, they are even smaller and harder to find.
Geocaching seems to have a number of off-label uses that are problematic to
say the least. If the premise of this use of technology is that small
packages can be effectively hidden almost anywhere and then found by anyone
with the right coordinates fairly easily, it seems like this is a huge law
enforcement problem waiting to happen.
Not really, law enforcement knows all about geocaching and in fact just
recently a nearby cache was reported as suspicious activity so the deputy
came out, found the container and left a note that he had been there, was
aware of geocaching and it "looked like good clean fun". All caches are
supposed to be clearly labeled on the outside so they are not confused as
bombs and such.
