Wisconsin Possum

possum

Have you ever wondered if possums look the same everywhere? While we were out eagle watching we came across this little guy. From what I’ve read the poor little Wisconsin possums run the risk of losing their cute little ears to frostbite. I think this guy has been in the cold too long. Aren’t his little pinks toes/fingers/claws precious!

Missouri possum

Haden's possum

My son, Haden, is still in Missouri with his grandparents and he caught this guy one evening. Not literally caught, like he did the crow last week, but caught with the camera. I love his BIG ears, the possum’s, not Haden’s.

I wonder if the two possums would be able to talk to each other if they met. Would they giggle at each other’s accents or would they speak two totally different languages?

Very Cute, love the pink toes! True Story: One night it was hot and my parents left the back door open for a breeze (they live in southern CA), a possum came in, went into my parents bedroom and took a nap by my dad's side of the bed. My dad reached down and thought it was their pet a Cairn Terrier and started petting it, scratching it's back. That's when he realized it wasn't Mandy the terrier, but an intruder! Possums are very dangerous, so they ended up calling animal control to come and capture the "house guest!"

Possums are interesting creatures with the ability to look adorable or disgusting. You've caught the cute side of one. Sometimes they look like giant, fat, mean rats and that's when they give me the willies. We had a possum coming up onto our porch every night to eat the cat food at one point. He was one BIG possum from eating all that cat food.

They look so cute when they're not smooshed up roadkill.

Great pictures. They showcase the differences so well!

I always wondered what made the English settlers who went to South Carolina decide to speak the way they do....all of the early settlers were from the same place yet the regional accents of the US are SO very different.

Now, I will wonder about the critters, too.

These are all great shots from the Bald Eagle Watching place. It looks like a really awesome place to go photographing.

possum and cute in the same sentence. Accck!

30 years ago there were none to speak of around here. Now I see them on the road (dead) and running through my back yard on a mission. They hiss and their teeth look like little razors.

VERY cute! I find when animals are this cute it's hard to remember they're wild animals and want to reach out and touch them. Which of course could lose me a few fingers. We don't have possums here but we do have porcupines for roadkill and they make for one big bump if they happen to walk out as you're driving by!

Ours look just like those. I think they might have different dialects, but I bet they could communicate.

I'm actually kinda scared of these guys but I was able to get my shots from the car, I just hung out the window a little. I'm sure Haden was under the tree, near that possum! They really creep me out and I can't believe some of you guys have had them inside. Scary!

What a cute little animal ! I have never seen one in liberty I think I saw them in a Zoo. We don't have wild animals here around except a squirrel from time to time.

He looks nothing like an aussie possum.
