Every year, around February I get a new camera. My husband gets me one for my birthday, each time updating from the old. Every one of them has been a Sony except one little Nikon that I passed to my mom this year. My old camera always gets passed to someone in the family and they are all still ticking.

I got a Sony Cybershot H5 this year and have really loved having the 12x zoom. It takes great photos and I think it is a perfect point and shoot camera. They do make an H9 now though with 15x zoom; I’m sure it’s awesome. But, I have finally outgrown the point and shoot and feel very limited by them.

It has taken Dennis almost 5 years to convince me to move up to an SLR. I haven’t wanted to because. . .

  1. . . .I don’t see that well and you have to use the viewfinder with an SLR; you can’t use the LCD screen. I was really afraid I wouldn’t be able to see well enough to use one.
  2. . . .I didn’t want to change lenses. That was the most annoying thing about the Nikon 35mm I had in high school. Well that and forgetting that I didn’t have my contacts in and adjusting the view to my own eyes, making a fuzzy photo.  But now there's autofocus.
  3. . . .I didn’t want the bulk. I liked being able to tuck my camera in my pocket or purse and always having it accessible. But the H5 helped me decide that if I was going to carry a point and shoot that big I might as well move on up.
  4. . . . of all the adjustments (buttons and dials) possible, I didn’t like them in high school and still had an aversion.
  5. . . .of having to use a tripod more often.  The weight of some lenses really make it hard to keep focus and hold the camera.

Well I had two birthdays this year; I made the leap and now am the proud owner of a Canon EOS Rebel XTi. I have been spending the last few days just getting used to it, snapping photos of anything just to practice. So far I love it! But my Sony won’t be getting passed on, at least not yet, it fits in the camera bag nicely with all the Canon stuff and it's quick and easy to pull out, plus I still love it's macro shots - maybe I'll have another birthday soon with a new macro lens.

Your new camera sounds brilliant. I'm about to get a new camera my first Sony digital has served me well for a number of years but it's time for an upgrade, although I think it will still be point anf shoot for me!! I'm waiting for advice from my daughter Sam who is a good photographer. I bought my last camera in the states so may well wait and do the same again when I visit later in the year.

Hello, I came here trying to track down the next FM so I can link it and I got hooked looking at your photos and life. Your kids are beautiful and it looks like you all have a lot of fun! Now off to find that link, I just realized I need to go back to August.

I LOVE my SLR - Nikon D-50. HOWEVER - I did not take it to Disneyland because I didn't want to carry the bulk around. We took our other smaller digital and it shot pictures just fine. But, sometimes I really missed my Nikon because it was easy to get the Candid shots. My older Olympus just wasn't reactive enough.

Congrats on the new camera!! I was just talking to a friend on Facebook about her getting a new camera. She is debating on the Rebel XT or the XTi. I only know my camera (Canon EOS 30D) so I'm not much help to her, but I do know I love Canon and will probably never have anything else. Congrats again Lisa! Of course you realize we'll expect many more photo's now right? :o)

I have the exact same camera and love it! I just got mine in July and then photographed a wedding with it in August. I was very pleased with the results. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do.

I have the same camera and the same thoughts as you. I never the the house without my little Kodak. When you figure everything out about it, come over and give me lessons. It didn't take long for me to become accustomed to looking through the little viewfinder and now I like it better.
