Our Fun Monday hostess, Sauntering Soul, would like to know our dirty little secrets. How do we react to things, or people, who upset us. How are we jerks?
Well, I’m pretty passive aggressive. For the most part, things don’t get to me, but we are talking about when they do. I had to dig a little to come up with some things but here’s what I’ve got.
Waitresses bad service - I have been known to, on occasion, give my waitress tips on how to get better tips via a note on the check and a low tip. I only result to this if we have had the same crappy waitress several times so I know it’s not just a bad day. We tip very well and when I order a soda I probably want a refill or I would not pay the high cost of it in the first place.
Noisy people above us in a motel - My brain cannot handle repetitive noises, they drive me batty. And when on occasion we have had noisy people above us stomping, jumping on the bed and acting like they just purchased the entire motel, I have been known to thump back, even if I had to jump on my bed with a shoe on my hand in order to do so.
Which makes me think of those people in the movie theaters, the ones who think their ticket has bought them every seat around them and they kick my seat or put their feet on my seat, etc. I will begin to lean back as far as my seat will go, or sit up really tall so my head is in their way, or sometimes I just move to an area away from them.
Tailgaters - people who ride my butt, practically pushing me down the road. Yeah, I slow down to a safe speed about 5 mph under the speed limit and sometimes if I see their blinker turn on I will turn too.
Salespeople ringing our doorbell - I don’t answer. My kids always call before they come over so if I hear the doorbell ring and don’t know who it is, I don’t answer.
People who tell me I have to do something when I think it is my choice - I just don’t do it. For example, when the seatbelt law was passed, I stopped wearing my seatbelt because it ticked me off that I was told to. I do wear it now, but I rebelled for a while. Pretty much if I’m not given a choice, but am told, “You have to do this. . .”, I want to not do whatever it is.
I think I have spilled my guts enough, thank you very much. I hope to find that I am surrounded by people who can also be jerks from time to time. Leave me a comment, how are you a jerk?
I become a jerk too in occasions I feel I need/ have to!
AMEN to every single one of those!!! Wow! We just might have been
separated at birth...LOL...What a vision....you standing on the bed
slamming your shoe into the ceiling!!! hahahahaha
I empathize with salespeople, but I have no problem hanging up/not
answering the door and I didn't even think of that as being a "jerk." They
come uninvited and I won't buy from them, anyway. I consider it my effort
to save them time! (See, with age I have TOTALLY rationalized all of my
jerk-like behaviros).
I like your thinking on tipping good waitresses and not so much to p*ss
poor waitresses/waiters! My feelings exactly.
There have been times when I have been tempted to do the same after poor
service but have never quite had the nerve! I have done the slow down to
tailgater and bashed on walls and ceilings!
I do that to tailgaters, I actually become a different person behind the
wheel and do things I would never do otherwise - LOL! Otherwise I just
fume quietly and mutter under my breath - very bad for my digestion I'm
sure!
Oh - you are going to regret not answering your door the day the Prize
Patrol shows up!!!!
I had trouble with this prompt but now that I read yours ideas are flooding
my brain! Perhaps I should ‘amend’ my Fu Monday post at Small Reflections
… or not. I’m with you about tipping … and I base what I leave on the
service I receive. I can be very generous and quite cheap depending. I’m
bothered by people who talk throughout movies, and have been known to let
them know … clearly. Tailgaters and sales people at the door (or on the
phone) … especially those who don’t seem to understand ‘no thank you’ ...
present challenges. Well done!!!
Hugs and blessings,
I have been a jerk a handfull of times....I normally breath deep and figure
out if making a jerk will change anything...or make it worse. Usually it
won't help so I just ignore the situation and move on w/ my life...keeping
my energy for things like smiling or coming up with blog posts :-)
I don't think these are jerk-like attributes. I think you are "mornal" just
like the rest of us who would react about the same way...Now, for a REAL
jerk-moment, I posted mine at Nikki's place. If you must know.
I've been known to bring out my broom and beat on the ceiling when my
upstairs neighbors are too loud. I've been known to do this a lot in fact
(hey, they're super noisy). One time I did it when my entire family was
over at my house for Christmas and I announced that my neighbors were
driving me "f***ing crazy". I thought my mom was going to pass out. The
rest of my family couldn't stop laughing. I'm with you....noise drives me
to do things like beating on the ceiling.
I like to call the front desk on noisy hotel people. Much more satisfying.
One thing I learned from my trainer the first time I started waitressing,
is to fill a soda or tea glass when it is about half empty. Not to wait
until it's completely empty, because customers would get irratated.
I am so with you on the tailgaters and the tips and the salespeople. I
hate getting unwanted sales calls and am probably a little jerky with them,
but they always phone when we're about to eat or when we're putting the
kids to bed. Sighh.
I do all those things...so I guess I'm a jerk, too?
You totally NAILED THIS Lisa! I'm a jerk because I don't get around to
commenting as much as I'd like!
I do believe we might be soul sisters...
Oh no, even your four year old has to call before he rings the door bell?
That's hard, Lisa! Grin. . .
Well thats not to bad....I think the waitress one is one of my top
ones!!!!!!! Nothing worse than getting a snotty and non smiling one who
would rather be elsewhere....and i know everyone can have a bad day but it
is what you make it. I didn't have time to do fun momnday but this is a
good one!!

LOL
I can certainly identify with the tailgating one. I do the same thing!
Sounds more like other being a jerk and you just reacting.
Very well said. These are some of my pet peeves too! I can be a jerk to
when I am being jerked at.
I will have to agree on the last one 100%! Don't mess with my kids, my
momma or tell me what I have to or not do. LOL! I couldn't even think of
these when I posted mine. LOL!
I'm glad you wear your seat belt already -- I enjoy you too much to see
you get ejected when one of those tail gators hits you. sigh.
