For my birthday my kids seemed to know that mom would like to have some flowers to photograph. My son, Mikal, works for a florist, in the warehouse, and I requested of him a flower that wasn‘t a rose or carnation. I guess my other boys heard me and they surprised me with flowers a few days before my birthday. Haden provided the bouquet for these first photos.
Of course I will need to keep taking some photos and I really should take a full photo of all the bouquets together but for now these are what I have. I slapped the 100mm macro lens on the 40D for all the photos here. And the one thing I have noticed with the macro is that it functions better if I pick my spot of focus instead of letting the camera do it.
These flowers are courtesy of Khris, I took the photos but he supplied the subjects.
Mikal showed up with a grouping of lilies. None of them were opened yet but the next morning they started. The first day only 3 opened and the next day about half were open. As of today they are all almost open. I can’t wait to fill the screen with all of them. Mikal tells me that the key to making them look pretty longer (they should last about three weeks) is to cut off the pollen thingamajobs, that little dark puff, he says when the pollen falls on to the petals it will turn the petal brown so I’ll be doing that to at least some of them, but not until my photos are done.
Britney and Nick brought me the coolest box with four cactus in it. I’ve only photographed two of the cacti so far but I’ll show the others when I photograph what Tristan brought me. Tristan took his first unassisted steps yesterday. :) Before his brithday (Feb 24th)
