Cameras have always been in my life a little more than in most people's. But I really wasn't interested in them, at all, until recently. I think the first time I confessed my love was February 2007. I had no idea how much my world of photography would change when we brought home that first digital SLR in September 2007. And, as I imagine, you can see by the list below we have jumped in with both feet.
You may be asking yourself why Canon, why not Nikon? My only answer would be that it was neck and neck for a long time; we knew that whichever way we went would predict our entire future choices. We would be buying a second camera body at some point and sharing all the lenses. Nikon and Canon lenses mount differently so both camera bodies had to be one or the other. Then we were told that Canon has slightly better glass (lenses) and we took the leap into a Rebel XTi.
It is my hope to compile a list of our various cameras and lenses, along with full reviews, to make it easier for people to answer those questions, "What camera are you using?" or "What lens are you using?" The first one is coming soon and you should start seeing the words below turn into links to keep all of the reviews in one easy to find location.

just kidding - I don't think you want the entire cyber world to have that
info!
Ok, now I see why you take such wonderful pictures. You have a Great "eye"
also. :)
Jealous?! Who's jealous?! ME. I am. Yes, I am. :green all over:
This explains how you get your beautiful shots. I'd never remember which
does what!
I love the pic of the last flower....holy smokes....your pics ROCK!!!!!
Look at all those lenses. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my face.
Just saw your email. Thanks! Will read it after this comment.
I have been eyeing that 24-105mm for some time now and waiting for the
right moment to buy (i.e., $$ in the bank account!). I have been a long
time Canon user though hearing about a friend's new Nikon and how she gets
no noise at 3200 ISO made me seriously consider switching (from my Rebel
XTi). Is that your experience with the higher end Canons?
Nice :D
Wow. Just WOW. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it. The tipping
point for me was that we heard Canon lenses are slightly less expensive
than Nikon.
nikkipolani - Not sure I know exactly what you mean about the noise, but I
have noticed the higher end Canons “clunk” like old film cameras instead of
whirring, if that makes sense. On the lens, that is the lens that comes
with the 5D. We looked for buying body and lens separately but really it
was cheapest to just go with the kit.
As soon as I clicked post it dawned on me you were not talking actual noise
but noise in the photo. Duh, my duh moment of the day. :) I can't answer
yet for the photo noise as we haven't tested it out yet, we've only had the
5D and 40D about a week. I'll let you know when I know. Although I have
seen some photos shot with the 5D at 3200 ISO, Wedding shots, no flash and
in RAW and they look great. You can edit the noise on the computer to
pretty much nil.
I think i need to send a link of this to my sister. She is the camera
peson in the family;)
I'm saving this post. I'm planning on getting a GOOD camera one day. I
have a cheap digital camera and miss out on lots of great pictures because
it's crap. I really want to get into photography and have been even
thinking of taking a class in the near future.
I'm looking forward to reading your reviews. I debated Nikon or Canon for
a long time too, and I've finally settled on Canon (I think), but I still
haven't quite made up my mind on which DSLR model I want yet.
Thank you for doing this. Inquiring minds NEED to know this stuff. Hubs
is not going to be happy when I ask for more lenses so I can be just like
YOU! :-)
you are my photo journal hero. I got a Rebel XT for Christmas and learning
on the fly. I have your pics to give me hope. You take very good photos -
