Old Dog, New Trick

posted Friday, 23 March 2007

I’m no good with change. I know that a lot of times change is good but it’s so hard for me during the adjustment phase. I quickly grew accustomed to having a DVR with our Dish service. I loved being able to record two programs at one time while watching a third I had previously recorded. I loved being able to skip commercials and I loved the nice easy skip forward button. A few quick jabs at the remote made commercials a thing of the past.

We now have digital cable and we signed up for their DVR (we contemplated TiVo and I still may run and get it). The installer did not have an instruction book to give us (he ran out). I cannot figure out all the features on this DVR and I don’t really like the way it’s set up. I have to click “record” several times instead of just once and while this may be a better set-up I’m accustomed to the old way. I also don’t like my new channel menu and hate having to figure out where my channels are now. On the upside I have Court TV back, so I can now sleep again (I like to fall asleep to Forensic Files)

I am definitely an old dog. I dare you to try to teach me new tricks. My husband must put up with my whining and complaining during the 2-3 months transition of anything new I am introduced to. And this is only if I can’t escape the new thing.

I don’t know when this happened. Don’t get me wrong I’ve never been fond of change but I’m not sure at what exact moment I started rebelling and pulling against my leash. Sometimes, I think I want something new but once I have it, it’s either not as good or easy as the old or it’s just so different that I drag my feet.

I have tried embracing things, revving myself up and getting excited by . . .a new pda for instance. I wasn’t thrilled to have to replace my Zire 31 but it had to be done as Diet Coke got the better of it. It still works but you never know when, unannounced, it will just stop and you have to let the battery completely die, then charge it back up fully and reload everything back on it. It’s annoying.

So I knew I had to replace it and I was happy that we were able to get a little nicer unit, a Tungsten E2, but I complained about its size and that it wouldn’t fit in the old pda’s case. I really liked that case and it took me months to find. So after a few months of using mostly the Zire and only resorting to the Tungsten when the Zire went legs up, I finally decided to embrace the new unit. I still complained about it’s size and not fitting in the case but I liked its bigger screen.

I still carried the old pda with me, my good ole buddy, and one day I decided I was going to give into my urges, I pulled it out and tucked the shiny Tungsten away. I still wasn’t happy. I had forgotten how small the font was on the Zire and felt I had to press it to my nose to attempt to read it.

With all that said, imagine how hard it has been to come to the decision to move my blog. I have been with blog-city for 2 years and I have really liked the ease of use. I know where all the buttons are (or did) and how to make things look they way I want them to for the most part. There have been a few minor things I haven’t been able to do but I could live with it.

For several months I have thought of moving my chaos elsewhere because I’ve had feedback where people either couldn’t read the whole entry or weren’t able to leave comments. With blog-city having just completed some updates not only have my buttons been rearranged, but people are having even more difficulty leaving comments. I can’t have that. Hearing from all of you is too important to me.

I am still in the process of getting everything organized but you will now find me at http://lisaschaos.typepad.com/ and in the very near future (if I can figure it out, it’ll be by the end of next week) you can simply go to www.lisaschaos.com. Either link will take you to the same place when I’m finished. The last two years’ of entries will remain where they are now and can still be accessed.

So, I hope you’ll join me in the move and let me know if you have any problems along the way. You can find a link to email me on either blog if you run across any issues.
