Little Critters and a Whatchamacallit

WARNING: Snake photos follow (Aims, hope you read that)

We finally went out geocaching last weekend. We hibernated most of the winter but there was a really nice day (It’s raining and snowing again now!) and we couldn’t resist. We were walking through a marsh when we discovered the little snake I showed you a couple of days ago.

Haden loves any creature and is not afraid of any of them. He has been bringing me all kinds of things for years. One morning, when he was two and woke up before me, he went into the backyard with his older sister. It wasn’t long before he was at my bedside and I was waking up to a scratching noise. He had a tiny mole in a cardboard box and was tipping it towards me to ask what it was.

Another morning he woke me up to tell me (around his pacifier) that a baby kangaroo is a joey (He watches the Discovery Channel). When he was four the whole family went to White Water in Branson and as we were leaving we lost him. We all split up looking for him, in a panic and he had no clue he had even been lost. He was too busy pointing at the ants he was hunched over, watching on the sidewalk.

We have had our share of frogs, snakes, bees, lizards, etc brought into the house in some sort of container. So you would think I would be used to it by now. But still, when the snake was doing things like this:

scary

And this:

scary!

His tongue is out, and he looks perturbed pissed! I happily handed the camera over to Dennis.

model

Even though he was very well contained by my gentle-handed son.

Waiver: No snakes were harmed in the taking of these photos and while said snake slithered happily away when released, I quickly dashed the other way. Thanx for all those crunches guys, I think they helped me run faster.

Now on to more pleasant things. Anyone venture a guess as to what this is?

what am i

I have no idea what that photo is, but I loved the ones of the snake. My daughter and her friend have been chasing and catching garter snakes this week.

Those snake photos are absolutely fantastic. I used to have a snake as a kid and I could never understand why everyone was afraid of him.

Lisa....you can keep your snakes. I just can't be near a snake! Although I did attend that one rattlesnake convention in Alamagordo....it's not something I'll ever repeat!! I get a little creeped out just thinking about it!!

My boys would play with the snake. Not me, no way. There is a geocaching spot on Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, we actually stumbled upon it when we were fishing one day. As for the thing, it almost looks like an old clasp or locking handle for something. Are you going to tell us, eventually?

I love that shot with his cute little tongue sticking out! Yes, it is cute. It's only a garter snake for Pete's sake!

That last picture is some kind of latch. It looks a little like the kind of latch that used to be on those old death trap refrigerators that people were warned to remove the doors from before disposing of them in the dump or off some country road. But it doesn't look like it's on a fridge. I can't figure out what it is. Ooh, is that lead-based paint peeling off of there? If so, I'd say it must be a crib. Not that it looks like one, but that idea goes with the whole death trap refrigerator.

I don't have a clue what that last pic is so I'm going to guess a old horn! Trumpet?

As long as you don't post any pics of spiders I'm okay. Is the mystery object a rusty old folding table?

Your shots make me embarrassed to even post a photo. I can not tell you how much I love the photo with the sweet baby snake sticking its tongue out. The clarity, the color. They took a fox snake out for me to hold at the zoo once. Cool. I love snakes, especially our mostly non poisonous ones.

The tongue was fantastic!

It looks like a latch of some sort.

We started to do some geocaching this winter. Maybe we will get more into it as the weather gets warmer.

I am posting a comment for Aims. She says she is a big chicken. I mean she says to say thank you very much for the warning of a snake in your post but would have to scan by the snakes to click on the comment so she is sending a wonderful lady over here to comment for her. That would be me in case you're wondering who the wonderful lady is. Snakes disturb Aims very much....or Aims is very disturbed?.....don't tell her I said that....that she couldn't even scan by the snakes to hit the comment button. I say she is a big scaredy cat chicken. But don't tell her I said that either. I'm just the messenger. Aims says hugs and all that squishy stuff. I'm not kissing you though.

The snake with the tongue out is priceless. I guess it was just as curious of you as you were of it. What a great shot!

that looks like the rusty spit hole (or whatever it is called) on a brass instrument. Well, the snake is harmless...but that still won't get him anywhere close to my fingers. My best childhood friend had no qualms about picking up snakes. They STUNK!!

The last photo looks like a clasp or hook for something, like rope or wire for fencing maybe. I love little snakes. That one is adorable. He wasn't angry, he was sticking out his tongue to smell you.
