UPDATE: This photo was not photoshopped, I saw several of these coming into Winter Park, along the main road.  It does look like the hoop is a sticker of some sort.

Hey, today is the 50th Anniversary of the hula hoop!

I have always wanted to see a Killdeer because in the bird book they look so cute. But they had always been elusive, until Saturday. As we pulled up to a dead end road in Wausau, near the interstate, believe it or not, we were greeted by this neat surprise. I took this shot right out the window of the car, he/she (males and females look the same) paused nicely didn’t he. I didn’t crop it at all, btw.

Cute little fellow, isn’t he? The way he was flopping around I thought he was hurt. But in that next shot he looks like he’s asking me if I’m following and of course I obliged him.

After I got home and looked him up in the Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide, I found that the way he was acting was not an indication of him being hurt. Nope, he, or she, act that way to draw intruders away. They build their nests on the ground, often in gravel, so their broken wing impression is a type of protection of the nest.

I also read that their babies look like yellow cotton balls on stilts. Maybe I should go in search of a yellow cotton ball. . . .

I did not know pot belly pigs were born with their eyes open. The mama had three babies the morning of this photo.

This baby wallaby has not been out of the pouch yet, so we don’t know what sex it is yet.

Canon 20D w/ 70-300mm IS USM lens

We woke up to a white ground and beautiful white blobs in the trees.  All of the photos were taken with the Canon 40D and the 100mm macro lens.  Hubby took the last one, of the snake, I was having a small anxiety attack just taking the first one, even though Haden was holding the tail.

. . .but I’m most excited about completing these. Six mini-books, one for each mini-family at the Thanksgiving family dinner. I have spent the last two days cutting and pasting and I happy to say, they’re done! Yes, I’m that slow.

weird search - Swimming chipmunk photos

I took the photos, this is not me, nor my dog, just a lady with her pet in a Pet Parade, Costume Contest.  She won!  If it's too sweet for you, wash it down with this. . .

This elk kept getting closer and closer, hissing all the way.  Needless to say, I backed up.  Then I ran walked quickly and grabbed the other camera with the less zoomy lens and finally was able to get all of him in a photo.  I'm still not sure if he really liked me or really didn't like me.
