We had plans of meeting the Nekked Lizards Monday evening, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans. We ended up too far away and camping in the mountains in San Isabel, Colorado. Much to say about all that but we had no cell reception and no internet until about 10 pm last night. Vacations are exhausting and we slept in tents, freezing our butts off.
So for today, I will share a little bird who seems to be everywhere in Wisconsin right now, or was when we left out. I had only seen one Rose-breasted Grosbeak, once, last summer. Now they seem to be everywhere! At my feeders, in the woods, everywhere. The female is the light brown one, the males always seem to be the prettiest, how fair is that? The female at my waterer comes every evening like clockwork.
This fellow was at the feeder when we pulled into the driveway one evening. Luckily, I had my camera in the car.
By this point you may be wondering why I’m showing you so many Grosbeaks. Well, notice how the one directly above is more brown than black. Some of their “red” patches are more salmon colors. I just thought it interesting that they weren’t carbon copies of each other. If you look, you will notice differences.
I like the one with the most red on him....superb pics as usual, Lisa!
Glad you are enjoying your trip, but sad that you are freezing your butt
off!
What a great looking bird! We definitely don't have those in Minnesota!
I've never seen this bird. We certainly don't have them here in Alberta.
They are darlings aren't they!!
I love the red breast. Such a sweet little thing. I hope you don't freeze
& enjoy the vacay.
Too bad about missing the Nekked Lizards, that would have been fun. Love
the bird shots. Not many have such a great difference in the male and
female. This is a great difference.
i saw these for the first time last year here in Maryland. i haven't seen
any yet this year! Great pics!
The female reminds me very much of the female Black Headed Grosbeak (I get
to see them at my feeder on rare occasions)
They are great photos. We have them here too, but I haven't noticed them
much lately. Of course I haven't noticed much outside lately, so they may
be there. I hear a lot of birds, especially at 4 in the morning when the
sun is starting to brighten the sky and the dog is barking her everloving
head off and I am up to yell at her; then I hear the birds. Perhaps they
are not there at all, but my mind is playing tricks on me;-). Not to
worry, they are there, I am not going crazy.
