I shared these photos with you on Monday and while searching through my flickr for them I discovered that I had taken them on April 28th, 2007. So, one year plus one day later I decided to go back over.
Hubby had barely walked in the door from work when I asked him to come to the park with me. I grabbed my macro lens and tossed the honkin’ lens to him. The honkin’ lens gets very heavy. Imagine carrying your laptop on the trails, yeah it’s 3-5 lbs, at least. So, I really call it my honkin’ lens, or sometimes huge honkin’, you might know it better as the 100-400mm, my birding lens. And since my left arm is aching, I assume from carrying it too much, I was happy to give it to him in case we saw the owl again.
On the way to the area I needed I saw this cute little snowman left over from our snow a couple of days ago. He looks pretty out of place now.
What I found was that I was a little late for the skunk cabbage; it looks very sad now. That center bulb thing starts out kind of a creamy white.
There was plenty around but it’s past its prime.
Do you recognize this? It will be prettier soon.
Who do I see?
Who sees me?
Those were taken with my macro lens (100mm). But Dennis managed to make his arm ache and get a crick in his neck while taking the following, with the camera pointed nearly straight up. And he says he’s not a birder, ha!
Pooping owl.
Shake, shake. . .
Shake.
Yawn?
Sneeze?
So, the whole trip wasn’t a bust. I really enjoyed watching him and I think he enjoyed seeing us again. We weren’t totally surprised to see him because we own a cache (GC12FTW) nearby and often people say they have seen him. I’m just amazed that he stays in this area. I guess he must find plenty to eat or he wouldn’t stay. Maybe he helps keep the nearby golf course clean.
how did you find an owl in the daytime? the only time my hubby saw one, we
went off the road for 10 hours. jeez.
He's a sweetie! How lucky to see him like that!
That snowman looks SO lonely. I never thought of photography as being so
physical. You guys must have got quite a work out!! But you also got some
fantastic shots.
Very cool! Tell Dennis we say thank you for suffering so we could see all
those great shots of the owl!!
Oh, I am so glad you had all the lens with you and that hubby was happy
capturing these amazing shots. We don't have many owls around here and I
haven't seen one since I was a child. (and was a very long time ago!)
Thanks for posting these!
LOL I think I have the same lens. Went for about a 6hr hike yesterday, and
I was feeling the burn.(I know I am a wimp) but the lens really does get
heavy after a while. I need to make a sling for it this summer.. Mine is a
Sigma 100-400.. Is yours the same brand? Great owl photos.. Do you think
maybe he/she is taking care of babies in a nest in the area?
...jotting down notes...100-400...birder. OH HEY! Thanks for the lens
tip. Great shots and I love how curious he seemed to be. Such a cute
little face.
I love that he didn't find you threatening at all. I love the skunk
cabbage too, never saw any like that.
You certainly got nosy in that owl's private business.
that's hysterical. I'm scrolling down looking at the pics and I see
"Pooping owl" LOL. I love the pics btw
Hey, if you scroll up and down real fast the owl looks like it's moving.
Would that be cool if you could get pictures that move?
That is SO cool! I've never seen an owl in the wild but I'm not giving up
hope. One day maybe. I love your photos!
I can't remember the last time I saw an owl. Those photos are just
magnificent. You are so very talented!
These are amazing! Snow and skunk cabbage? What a combo. Our cabbage hasn't
shown it's purple self yet. There are fiddle head to spare around here,
though. I love those furry wonders.
Amazing photos Lisa!! The owl was really quite interesting. I've never
been able to spend much time seeing one up close.
wow, it's amazing he stayed put for so long. we have some owls around
here, but if you even get near them, they take off. talk about a
wing-span.
Hi, I came in via aims. Your owl photos are amazing, we have owls living
betwwen floors in the house. They are beautiful to watch, but boy do they
poop. Debs x
WOW! That owl just amazes me. Is this honkin' lens the one you said if I
only got one that would be it? But I want to have those close up shots like
that.
That owl just said Piss on you without words!! Ok poo on you.
Hilarious!!Yet fascinating.
Fantastic photos!!
How cool is that, that the owl hangs out in the same place all the time!
Amazing...he's so pretty and your pictures are great. I get Screech Owls
in my yard, but only see them at night. No pictures of them for me!
on your earlier post I thought it was a great gray. These new pictures
make me think it is a Barred Owl.
Excellent shots! That owl is so cool!!
Oh, I totally love the fern and the owl shots!
Awesome!
Wow, what wonderful photos. I don't think I have seen skunk cabbage before
but I have heard of it. We have an owl and at night it bugs the dog with
it's "whooo, whooo". She barks like crazy and I have gone out there and
yelled at her and could hear the owl. A couple days ago I was walking her
and stop to talk to the neighbour. I was telling the neighbour about
getting up in the night and yelling at the dog for barking and there is
nothing out there but the sound of the owl and I made the sound and the dog
started looking at me a bit sheepish and wagging her tail and acting a
little giddy. I really think she new then what I was talking about.
Hi - loved the photos. My daughter is 48 years old; her name is Lisa Marie
- she lives in Ohio, and she does great photography too.
