A cell phone is something I thought I would never need. But as my kids got older, old enough to be left at home alone for a few hours, I felt I needed one so they could always reach me. As they started driving and got jobs, we felt they needed them too. So we are a family of cell phones. In fact, we don't even have a home phone anymore because we never answered it when we did. Anyone we wanted to talk to knew our cell numbers.
We have had cell phones for about 6 years now and since we have free sprint-to-sprint we have never felt the need to add text messaging to our plan. That is, until now. When we found out we could add 300 texts to one of our kid's phones for $5 a month or for $20 we could have unlimited text on all 6 of our phones. . . well duh, we went all out.
Texting is a feature I never thought I would use and really didn't see a use for. I thought it was silly to "type" on the little keypad instead of just calling the person. But, gosh dang we were spending money on it so by golly I was going to use it. In the last four days I have found that. . .
did u know it takes 8.5 mins for the sun light to reach the earth
and
did u know the ocean sunfish grows 2 million times its birth weight
when I responded with, "wow thats big!"
Yup thats big over 2.5 tons
I'm still figuring out things like ILY and JK but I'm having fun. But I'm starting to think my kids might be getting tired of mom having unlimited access to them. Wanna text me?
Ooh! A mariquita. My son loves them. And, if you can get your kids to
stay in touch with you using this new fangled technology, go for it. I
love that you now get your I love yous via ILYs.
I don't use my cell phone that much I keep it for emergencies and to do the
odd text to the girls. I get messages from them saying you aren't on line
skype me! or I'm on the early train to work ring me. I am a dutiful mum and
always obey!
I think my texting days are over. My husband's company just released a new
phone plan they want us to use (with a company that does NOT get good
coverage here) - although family members get a discount, I liked my
husband's old plan better...texting was pretty free.
I think it is sweet how they stay the same even while changing so much.
Nice post.
I have had text for 3 months now and am still learning! And to think, when
my older children were at home I let them go out without even thinking of a
cell phone!
My cell phone went through the soak cycle - and laid in the bottom of the
wash machine all night. No more Text messaging, No more camera. BUT, it
still dials and I can talk on it
I got a cell phone quite a long time ago, I think when I started leaving
the kids by themselves or with a sitter. My husband just got one last year
when I got a new one, as we went with internet phone at the house, and we
were concerned if we left the kids when the satellite was out they wouldn't
have a way to contact people and we are on an acreage. The kids aren't
driving yet, so we haven't invested in phones for them. I still don't know
how to text, but I have received one or two and can read them. I am sure
it is something that I will eventually work into.
Really sweet post, Lisa! I especially like the ILY texts! The only part I
don't like about texting is that I worry when my daughter does it when
she's driving...
