On our way to his grandparent’s house a few days ago we stopped at a roadside reststop and somehow in the 10+ acres he walked directly to this Black Widow. He had a lot of fun laughing at how his mom was so eager to hold the cup we put her in and snap her photo when she could kill me, yet was so terrified of a black snake.
See that little thing on her tummy that looks like a belly button? That’s where he web comes out.
Haden carefully held her out on some grass for this shot.
Since she started putting out web, Dennis held her up by the web for the following two shots. See her hourglass?
We had fun admiring her then put her back where we found her.
WOW! Black widows scare the crap outta me! But those are amazing photos!
You are so brave :o)
WOW! All of those shots are amazing! You are so brave, and so is Haden!
Oops! You hubby is very brave too!!!
Wow! Great pictures. I don't think I would have gotten that close though, I
do like spiders. Over here we have a similar looking spider called a
redback, they are always hanging around our back yards. They can be deadly
but its fairly rare. Funnel web spiders are much scarier, they are quite
hostile.
That is really awesome. We don't have them up here, so I don't know if I
have seen one. I may have at the museum as we have a bug area with all
sorts of live insects. Those are cool photos.
Awesome pictures! We have a lot of those around here. I have heard that
they are "nice" spiders, but they give me the creeps.
GREAT photos!!! I usually see brown widows, but the blacks are much
cooler...the danger, the intrigue!! I like that you let the little lady go
on her way and didn't smash her.
You put her back?? Egads! You didn't squash her? Ug. I've twice been
bitten by poisonous spiders and never bat an eye sending them to their
maker.
(slowly backing away from her computer screen while getting the extreme
itchies).
when our middle daughter was in about 4th grade, the hubby found one at the
fire station. She took it to school in a glass jar and the teacher was
quite frazzled.
I've seen 5 or 6 around - window wells, etc.
I've never thought to photograph one. Really lovely ---
:-).. Yes, she would have ended up on the bottom of my shoe...or my
husbands shoe. You are a much better woman then I :-)
I want to say something nice like "wow, amazing pictures" or something like
that, but all I can really think as I type this is "argh, eek, ugh"...I
feel like I've got creepy crawlies going up my arms...egads!
Wonderful photos. Unfortunately for the black widows I found at my house,
they didn't make it out alive. I couldn't have an infestation of more than
seven of them living with my four-year-old wandering around. <a
